Now you could just sit around and do nothing or, if feeling
marginally energetic, read one of the books from the LIBRARY, but boy! are you
missing out!
Adjacent to the SUN TERRACE with tables and chairs, parasol and SUN
LOUNGERS is the POOL house. Housing the SWIM SPA POOL, the pool
house also has a SAUNA and SHOWER, together with both EXERCISE
EQUIPMENT and poolside loungers and chairs.
There is a selection of GAMES and SPORTS EQUIPMENT, including BADMINTON,
BOULES and FOOTBALLS, together with a number of FISHING RODS.
There are various places along the river bank from which to go FISHING (licence
required for fishing in the river) and if successful, BARBECUES on which to
cook the catch.
A short walk along the RIVER ISLAND brings you to the meadow and the main
part of L'Isle de Samaran. Planted with a wide variety of trees and with paths cut
through the MEADOW the most usual comment is WOW! The JUNGLE PATH
through the trees alongside the river brings you to our BADGER SETT, beyond
which is a PICNIC area with table and benches overlooking the pool below the DAM.
Guests use this as a base for SWIMMING in the river.
If you are feeling tired on the walk back, there are SEATS placed under the
trees to provide secluded areas for watching the abundant WILDLIFE. At the
appropriate times of day and season it is not uncommon to see COYPU, DEER,
RED SQUIRRELS, STOATS, FOXES, BUZZARDS, KITES,
BADGERS, OWLS, HERONS and WILD BOAR, not to mention the
many species of BUTTERFLIES and SONGBIRDS.
You will also meet our resident DUCKS - Scruffy, Robespierre and The Merry
Widow, who join us for breakfast most mornings.
To venture further afield without the car, we have a number of MOUNTAIN BIKES
for all ages.
All the gîtes have UK and German SATELLITE TV, DVD/VIDEO players and
CD players.
 We have a small DVD/VIDEO LIBRARY
which is available for guests, together with a selection of PAPERBACK BOOKS and
BOARD GAMES. In the garage block is the guests' LAUNDRY with WASHING
MACHINE, IRON, IRONING BOARD and DRYING RACKS.
Last but not least, is the WHEELROOM which is available for guests' use. Why
not have an aperitif by CANDLELIGHT and listen to the soporific sound of the WATERWHEEL.
A short distance down river from the mill is a base for CANOE SAFARIS for
either half or full days and have proved to be very popular with guests.
Also within easy distance from the mill are fourteen 9 and 18 hole GOLF COURSES
plus Pau, the oldest 18-hole golf course in mainland Europe.
